Totally Broken

I ran across this YouTube video from Kinetic Church in Charlotte, North Carolina.

Go to the place where you dumped our communion stuff – I want to meet you there and tell you that I forgive you. Go to the place where you dumped our communion stuff – I want to take you out to lunch.

This reminds me of a part of the Exodus story: God calls the people into the wilderness and there reveals his glory to them on the Sinai Mountain. God sets up strict boundaries around the mountain and the people tremble because of how terrifying God’s glory is and how sinful they are.

And God calls out from the top of the mountain: Moses, you and 73 other leaders of Israel, come up to me. And Moses and the leaders go up the mountain and they “saw the God of Israel.” Even more than that, “they saw God, they ate and drank.” (Gen.24:9-11)

In spite of all the willful disobedience that God knew these people would act out; in spite of all the heartache and grief that God knew these people would cause; in spite of the fact that God knew they would one day kill his own son – in spite of all of that, God says, “come up here, I want to have lunch with you.”

Go to the place where you dumped our communion stuff – and there find forgiveness; there find restoration; there find lunch.
